Robbie Burns 2007

Robbie Burns 2007
Last Thursday was Robbie Burns, and Black Water's traditional haunt has been Allen's and Dora's on the Danforth. Black Water played to a packed house in Allen's and a few impromptu mini-shows at Dora's. The night was jammed with music — Highland dancers at Allen's and even Ceilidh players at Dora's.

Olivia snapped a few pics of the action, and even a movie or two. Check out the photos by following the link (image) on the left or go to Robbie Burns Black Water gallery.

Black Water in the News!

Black Water at the 2006 Labour Day Parade
If it's good news, then there is nothing better than seeing photos of yourself in a national newspaper. This is a scan from the Tuesday, Sept 5th Toronto Star in the GTA section (B4). Go Black Water!!

Robbie Burns Events

As usual, January is a busy time for pipe bands! We had two Robbie Burns events. The first was our perennial event at Allen's on Wed, Jan 25th. We played several tunes, including lots of old favourites, like Auld Lang's Syne, Amazing Grace, and Scotland the Brave, as well as our signature Medley and our Jig Set. Following the "formal" show at Allen's we continued to jam at Dora Keogh's into the wee hours with lots of dyed-in-the-wool Scottish fans to cheer us on.

The second event was with a mini-band at the Toronto Scottish Rugby Club Robbie Burn's Dinner on Fri, Jan 27th at Hart House at the UofT campus. Somehow it fell to yours truly to lead the band. First time I've ever tuned everybody's drones on the fly with an electronic tuner. Hopefully the crowd didn't notice my rather limited tuning skills! Anyways, they fed us well, gave us beer, and after a very good little concert we went on our merry way.
