This past summer I doubled the number of duathlons run (from one to two!). I just completed the Toronto Island Duathlon and recorded a significantly improved time (although the run segments where each 0.5 km shorter than other meets.

We are the Champions!

This year we won the Grade 3 at the North American Pipeband Championship at the Glengarry Highland Games (in Maxville). We are the Toronto Police Pipe Band (TPPB) Grade 3 lead by Pipe Major Brian Urkosky. We are seen marching up to the line and then playing our medley: “At Long Last” (march), “Soenaidh’s Tune” (strathspey), “The Grey Bob” (reel), “The Mermaid” (slow air) , “Daniel Michael Coleman’s Father’s Fancy” (jig), “The Rock and the Wee Pickle Tow” (jig), and “Mark Sheridan’s Jig” and “Mark Sheridan” (hornpipe).

Our paper in Radiology is on early publication. It’s even being picked up by the mainstream media, (e.g. MSNBC).

Wow! I did it. I finished my first duathlon – no heart attacks, no long term injuries. The table below shows my times for each segment and for amusement I included the times for the second place finisher (top in my age group). All in all I thought I did awesome. My runs were slow, but I’m not a long distance runner and I really didn’t have the stamina to go much faster. My cycling segment was much better (I even moved up 14 …

We just felt an earthquake in Toronto. I happened to be against a doorframe at the time and it pushed me! I was on the ground floor at the time. Co-workers on the sixth floor say the shelves shake and stuff nearly fell off, while the window blinds rattled madly. In about 10 minutes, the info was available on the internet.
