I happened to be against a doorframe at the time and it pushed me! I was on the ground floor at the time. Co-workers on the sixth floor say the shelves shake and stuff nearly fell off, while the window blinds rattled madly. In about 10 minutes, the info was available on the internet. The epicentre was near Ottawa at a magnitude 5.5 at 01:41:41 PM. We felt it a few minutes later. The US Geological Survey has more info and ...

Photo was taken in the Gulf near the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. It seems almost like the discarded flag was staged, but wow, what a powerful message! Photo credits to Press-Register/Ben Raines.

I don’t understand why it was such a problem to get this bill passed. Actually, I do understand. A lot of idiots went ballistic stating that this was gonna bankrupt America and lead to government control of the quality of healthcare. And this somehow was against the very nature of the American dream.
Anyways, it clearly fixes a lot of problems with the current system and introduces a slew of regulations that control the behavior of intransigent insurance companies to provide coverage for low-income and for those ...

And now that Starbucks is essentially everywhere, to me, it becomes and eyesore. There is a good opinion article in the LA Times, that discusses a frank admission by Starbucks executive that in fact, Starbucks has gone too far, too fast[Scrapbook] http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-op-gross4mar04,0,2819241.story?coll=la-opinion-rightrail.

Every once in a while you hear something good in the news rather than the usual doom and gloom. Sometimes it even helps restore your faith in humanity and gives a little hope for the future. Roberta Langtry of Toronto was just such a story. She died recently after a living to the respectable age of 89 years. She lived a quiet unassuming life and was a teacher for most of her career. What made her remarkable has only come to light since her passing. ...

Not really my own deep thoughts, but this is a strong editorial on the situation in the U.S. View the broadcast or read the text from Keith Olbermann of MSNBC. I don’t watch MSNBC, so I know little of Olbermann, but the editorial is remarkably insightful, and remarkably damning of the government response to the plight in New Orleans. I sincerely hope that people learn from this tragedy and that New Orleans can rebuild, and that the thousands of homeless people find a way to rebuild their ...

Well, it looks like George W. has won the election. Barring a miracle, he seems to have won the popular vote, and the electoral college votes.
Everything else aside, this must bode well for Canada for two reasons. First, the U.S. dollar will continue it’s nose dive, strengthening the Canadian dollar (The first day after the election, the Canadian dollar hit a 12 year high of 82.9 cents!), increasing our trade power. Secondly, with the U.S.’s phenomenal deficit, and incredibly lacklustre domestic policy, Canadians should be able to reverse ...
