I stumbled across this website searching for the latitude and longitude coordinates from the Da Vinci Code. It has nothing to do with the Da Vinci Code, but it’s actually pretty neat nonetheless. The idea behind the Degree Confluence Project is to build a photo archive record of all of the positions on Earth which correspond to the crossing of integer latitude and longitude lines (e.g. 44°N 79°W). | People are asked to provide photos of facing the four cardinal directions, and a photo of their GPS readout. Check the requirements at the website if you’d like to contribute photos for the confluence project. The goal is to record every confluence point on or within site of land across the globe.

One of the most interesting things about is website is the sense of geography you get when viewing the photos from everywhere. The other thing that I found somewhat astounding was that relatively few confluence points seem to go through urbanized regions. Kind of weird, eh?
