Nobel Prize in Physics 2018 awarded to Canadian

Congratulations to Donna Strickland who was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for her work in developing ultra-short laser pulses. Donna Strickland will be the third female laureate in physics. (The others were Marie Curie, 1903 and Maria Goeppert-Mayer, 1963). More can be read in the Nobel press release. Donna Strickland’s and Gérard Mourou’s seminal paper, Compression of amplified chirped optical pulses is published in Optical Communications, 1985. Dr. Strickland is currently at the University of Waterloo. Dr. Strickland shares the prize half-jointly with Dr. Gérard Mourou and the other half award to Arthur Ashkin for his work on optical tweezers.
